Kroner May Head To Brisbane

Master trainer Bart Cummings is contemplating a belated Brisbane winter campaign for smart three-year-old
Kroner after his successful return to the racetrack mid-week in the Rosehill Gardens Event Centre Rating 75 Handicap (1100m).

Cummings had high hopes for the colt before equine influenza (EI) hit last spring then a minor injury setback and wet weather further delayed the master trainer's plans.

Kroner, a son of Viking Ruler, is a half-brother to AJC Derby winner Headturner.

The Group One Stradbroke may be off the agenda for Kroner but Cummings has not ruled out chasing smaller winter carnival pickings at the Brisbane carnival.

Kroner, who hadn't raced for 10 months, was parked by jockey Hugh Bowman in the box seat and the colt exploded away from rivals when asked to lengthen stride.

Bowman believes Kroner has untapped potential, while Cummings said "he'll be a very nice mile-and-a-quarter horse".
