Tavistock was confidently expected to sire the winner of the age group event at Avondale and, fortunately for us, it was our homebred filly Our Tristabelle who prevailed.

The late stallion’s multiple black-type winner Tutukaka was backed into less than odds-on favouritism, but he had to play second fiddle over 1400 metres to the grey three-year-old ridden by Ashvin Goindasamy.

Trained by Peter and Dawn Williams, Our Tristabelle was coming off a fifth placing at Ruakaka where she endured a torrid run and this time she received a far more economical passage.

She crossed to sit second and one off the fence before hitting the front early in the run home and rallied strongly to lower Tutukaka’s colours.

Our Tristabelle was purchased out of our 2020 draft at Karaka by Platinum Thoroughbreds and is a sister to the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic winner She’s Alight and to the multiple black-type placegetter Midnitemagicman.

Their dam Keep Alight, who was served last season by Embellish, is a Keeper mare who won on two occasions and is a half-sister to the G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas winner Danske. They are out of the dual Group 1 winner Our Tristalight.
