Long layoff no issue for Loose Cannon

Long layoff no issue for Loose Cannon7 Sep 2021

Loose Cannon overcame the outside barrier and an eight month spell on the sidelines to post a result we took great satisfaction from at Taupo this afternoon.

We sponsored the event – the Hello Youmzain @ Cambridge Stud Handicap – so it was gratifying to see this daughter of our sadly ill-fated Tavistock romp home for trainer Stephen Marsh and owners Go Racing.

Loose Cannon had it all against her over the 1200 metres from gate ten, but a canny ride from Michael McNab saw her loom into contention early in the run home and then distance her Rating 75 rivals by a widening three lengths.

Although a six-year-old, the mare has been patiently handled and has now compiled the tidy record of three wins and five placings from her 10 appearances.

Judging by the way she finished off this afternoon, it’s not going to be long before she adds to her career statistics.

A $150,000 purchase at Karaka for the syndication company out of Curraghmore’s draft, Loose Cannon was bred by the late Chris Luoni with his wife Rosanna and is from the extended pedigree of the Australian Group 3 winners Scarlet Billows and Smytzer’s Rivalry.
