Love Diamonds filly makes $640k at Karaka

The powerful China Horse Club didn't take long to add to their Karaka tally on day two of NZB's National Yearling Sale.

Their New Zealand-based bloodstock and racing manager Michael Wallace was active on Monday and he followed up early in the second session by securing a daughter of Savabeel (Lot 260) for $640,000.

Offered by Sir Patrick Hogan's Cambridge Stud, she is out of the winning Danehill mare Love Diamonds, who is also the dam of the Group-placed Lovetessa.

The underbidder was international agent Hubie de Burgh, acting on behalf of Shadwell Stud.

"She's a filly that we've been looking at all week," Wallace said.

"Savabeel needs no introduction and this one is from one of Sir Patrick's world-class families. Graeme Rogerson has got the full-sister, who is highly-regarded, and he was bidding on this one which gives you more confidence.

"The Savabeel fillies are getting the job done and the statistics show that he's an elite stallion and the market has woken up to that. He's doing it all."

A decision has yet to be made whether this acquisition would remain in New Zealand or cross the Tasman. ? NZ Racing Desk
