Maldivian Named Waikato 2009 Cathay Pacific Horse of the Year

1 Aug 2009

With two Group One wins to his credit this season, it was no surprise that the Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan bred Maldivian was named 2009 Cathay Pacific Horse of the Year at the Waikato Breeders Group One Awards on Friday night (31.7.09)

The
Zabeel 6yr old gelding, out of the Danzig mare Shynzi, was up against some stiff Waikato-bred company with the likes of Mufhasa, Sir Slick, Metal Bender, Vision and Power, Linky Dink, Jacowils, Kaaptan, Swick and Tuesday Joy all receiving awards for their Group One wins during the season and the Horse of the Year being selected from this prestigous group.

Alongside his two Group One wins this season in the CF Orr Stakes and WS Cox Plate, Maldivian has a third Group One win to his name with the Yalumba Stakes won in 2007.

Sir Patrick had several trips to the stage as the breeder, along with Lady Hogan, of Group One winning 2 yr old filly Linky Dink, by
Keeper out of Gimmick and also of the
Zabeel-Latte Group One winner Fiumicino, bred in conjunction with Graham De Gruchy.
