Marchand makes winning mark

Marchand makes winning mark1 Oct 2021

Marchand’s price for next month’s G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas was trimmed following a determined effort to shed his maiden tag at Te Rapa this afternoon.

The home-bred and raced son of Burgundy had finished runner-up in his previous two appearances and so victory over 1400 metres was deserved for him and our trainer Lance Noble.

Marchand was settled in second spot by Sam Weatherley and, after hitting the front soon after straightening, he kicked on bravely to open his account and reduce his Guineas odds from $31 to $21.

He is bred to appreciate more ground as he is a son of the three-time Group 1-winning Encosta De Lago mare Lashed.
