Multiple stakes performer Windermere was the highlight lot of the broodmare session at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Weanling and Broodmare Sale at Karaka and fetched $120,000 to the bid of Little Avondale Stud’s Sam Williams.

The six-year-old daughter of All Too Hard was a four-time winner in Australia and placed in the Listed Christmas Cup and Listed Tatt’s Gold Crown.

Presented by Kilmore Farm as part of the dispersal of prominent Australian breeder Rob Ferguson’s New Zealand-based mares, Windermere is in foal to exciting young sire Sword Of State.

Windermere is out of the unraced Sadler’s Wells mare Rosetta Stone, a sister to multiple Group One winner Brian Boru (Sadler’s Wells) and Group One-producing broodmare Kitty O’Shea.

“I missed out on a number of mares on the Gold Coast as the competition was very strong and this mare was the standout of the mares here,” Williams said.

“She was the only mare I wanted.

“She maps very well with Per Incanto and being a Group placed mare, the page for her foal will read attractively.

“She represents a strong international female family and I was delighted to get her.”

The second top-priced broodmare Medieval Miss was also offered in foal to Sword of State from Kilmore Farm, and was secured Bruce Perry Bloodstock for $85,000.

Medieval Miss is a daughter of Camelot that won six races in Australia and placed at black type level in the Listed Birthday Cup. - NZ Racing Desk
