Mare makes dream debut

Patience was rewarded at Wanganui this afternoon when the covers came off the promising Tavistock mare Miss Woburn.

Waiting tactics with the four-year-old paid off in spades when she made the perfect debut, romping home by three lengths.

She is trained at Marton by Fraser Auret for local owners, the Trotter family who bred the mare.
Miss Woburn had won her lead-up trial and she had no trouble carrying that form over to race day.
Tardily away, she settled second last before rider Lisa Allpress urged her around the field 600 metres from home.

Miss Woburn was widest into the straight and held a sustained gallop to draw away for an impressive victory.

She is out of the Al Akbar mare Take Three, who has also produced the multiple winners Third Time Lucky and Portland Jimmy. The headline act in the pedigree is Rich Brother, whose five wins featured the Gr.2 Sandown Cup.

To date the Tavistock/Al Akbar cross has resulted in two winners from two to run, one of which being the Gr.2 MVRC Bill Stutt placegetter Salsamor.
