Progressive mare Dance Card did her very best at Ellerslie to lift spirits at Cambridge Stud following a harrowing 24 hours.
On Friday, the farm was forced to make the decision to put down stallion Burgundy due to acute laminitis.
A day later Dance Card provided a much-needed tonic when she came with a timely finish to win the Dunstan Feeds Championship Qualifier.
Trained by Lance Noble, the Savabeel mare has now won twice in showing her appreciation of a step up to 2200 metres.
“She’s been building toward this off her last couple of runs,” Noble said.
“Hopefully, it will give everyone at the stud a bit of a boost, we’re all thinking of them.”
Bred by the Duchess Of Bedford, the mare was purchased at Karaka for $260,000 and is a daughter of Dancing Attendance.
The dam is by Danehill Dancer and is a winning half-sister to the dual Gr.2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup winner Precedence.
It is also the family of Cambridge Stud’s highly successful resident sire Tavistock.
