Tavistock mare Flying Mascot produced a career-best performance to claim top honours in the G3 Tesio Stakes at Moonee Valley.
Ridden by Blaike McDougall, the four-year-old was travelling like the winner a long way from home and, when a gap presented at the top of the straight, she was through in a flash and bolted clear.
“That was very special. It’s the first Group 3 for the new stable and I was thrilled for Flying Start Syndications,” trainer Tom Dabernig said.
Flying Start and Pinhook Bloodstock purchased what is now a bargain when they paid AU$25,000 for her at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale where she was offered by breeder Finemore Thoroughbred via Alexia Fraser Bloodstock.
“She’s a mare that as a three-year-old was a bit delicate, but as a four-year-old mare now she’s really seasoned up very well,” Dabernig said.
“It was a little bit tense turning for home from a long way out, but when she got clear she really burst through and with a Group Three win for a Tavistock mare, she’s very valuable.”
Flying Mascot is a half-sister to the Listed Cinderella Stakes winner Koala Bear with their dam the Zabeel mare Lucky Mascot and the family of the two-time Group 1 winner and sire Xtravagant.
