Melbourne Cup next for Precedence

Precedence, a horse co-bred, raised and sold by Cambridge Stud, has earned a start in Tuesday week’s Melbourne Cup-Gr.1 (3200m) after a dominant display to win yesterday’s Group Two Moonee Valley Gold Cup on Cox Plate Day.

The big son of Zabeel never looked in doubt in the 2500 metres historic feature and trainer Bart Cummings looks to have primed him perfectly for the Cup start.

Bloodstock Consultant Duncan Ramage purchased Precedence for $180,000 at the 2007 NZB Karaka Premier Sale and the horse is now raced by Dato Tan Chin Nam in conjunction with Henrietta, The Dowager Duchess of Bedford and Sir Patrick Hogan.

From the same family as Cambridge Stud newcomer stallion Tavistock, Precedence will bid to become the fourth Melbourne Cup winner by Zabeel, the others being Efficient (2007), Jezabeel (1998) and Might and Power (1997).
