New black type milestone for Zabeel

10 May 2014

Super Sire Zabeel has been no stranger to milestones during his long and illustrious career and even in retirement the son of Sir Tristram keeps reaching new heights.

Yesterday he sired two more individual black type winners, taking his individual stakes winner tally past the 150 threshold to sit at 151.

The first of his pair of new black type horses was Rezoned, a three-year-old filly from Better Alternative (Flying Spur) who took out the Sportingbet South Australia Fillies Classic-Gr.3 (2500m) from the stable of Robert Smerdon.

Rezoned was raised at Cambridge Stud and sold by the farm at the 2012 Karaka Premier Sale for $400,000.

The other new stakes horse was Zephyron (ex Diamond Like, by Danehill), a $2m Karaka yearling, who took out the Lord Mayors Cup-LR (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens.

As a broodmare sire Zabeel has had another remarkable season being the sire-of-the-dam of five Group One winners.  He currently leads both the Australian and New Zealand Broodmare Sire Premierships, titles he has won for the past two seasons.
