New Group One winner for Stravinsky

1 Jan 2013

Fleur de Lune (Stravinsky ex Kapsjoy, by Kaapstad) became the 9th individual Group One winner for her sire when taking out yesterday’s Railway Handicap (1200m) at Ellerslie.

In every respect it was a deserved success at the elite level as Fleur de Lune had previously been placed in Group One company on no less than five occasions.

At three years she was placed third in the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes-Gr.1 (1600m).  Last season, at four, she was third in the Makfi Challenge Stakes-Gr.1 (1400m); second in the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes-Gr.1 (1600m) and third in the Easter Handicap-Gr.1 (1600m).  Earlier this season she was placed second in the Windsor Park Plate-Gr.1 (1600m).

The Lee Somervell-trained mare now has a record of 6 wins & 11 placings from 23 starts, with prize money of $397,275.

The Group One success for Stravinsky comes hard off the back of another stud milestone for the son of Nureyev.  Just last week he chalked up his 800th individual worldwide winner.
