Stravinsky took his tally of individual winners to a staggering 785 when Regency Champion was successful at Sha Tin yesterday on the last day of the Hong Kong racing season.

Few stallions of Stravinsky’s age (16), anywhere around the globe, can match his individual winning statistic, a key reason for Sir Patrick Hogan repatriating the horse from Japan to stand permanently at his Cambridge Stud.

While Stravinsky is American-bred and has stood much of his career in the states and Japan, its New Zealand where he began his hugely-successful southern hemisphere stud career in the year 2000.

Regency Champion is bred to be good.  His dam is the Danehill mare Isle of Gibraltar, herself Group and Listed-placed.  This is the family of the seven time Group One winner Rock of Gibraltar.

Gordon Cunningham’s Curraghmore Stud sold Regency Champion at the 2010 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Premier Sale for $220,000.
