Our Hail Mary has proved to be a wonderful money-spinner for part-owner and trainer Allan Sharrock.
She was purchased out of Cambridge Stud’s draft at Karaka for $35,000 and claimed open handicap honours over 2100 metres at Hawera in her farewell performance to bow out with career earnings topping $195,000.
The daughter of Ocean Park settled toward the back of the small field and came from last at the top of the straight with a stout finishing run under apprentice Faye Lazet.
“Our Hail Mary has had her issues at times, but she retires with nine wins under her belt including two at stakes level, so she has done us proud as well. She’s going to be a Mum now,” Sharrock said.
The six-year-old, whose winning tally features successes in the G3 Trentham Stakes and the Listed Marton Cup, is out of the Ekraar mare Repenting.
She is a sister to Sharrock’s four-time Group 1 winner Shez Sinsational, who has produced Our Hail Mary’s dual Group3-winning and Group 1 placegetter stablemate Sinarahma.
The G3 Metric Mile winner and G1 Schweppes Oaks third House Of Cartier is also a daughter of Shez Sinsational.
