Cambridge Stud graduate War Eternal has been tipped by trainer Bjorn Baker as a colt capable of making his mark in strong company.

The Warwick Farm-based conditioner revealed his regard for the Pierro colt after he had posted a strong victory at Randwick at just his third appearance.

Baker has yet to decide which direction War Eternal will take and will wait to see how the youngster comes through this outing before forming a plan.

“We will have to have a bit of a think about it. He relaxed well and he’s definitely got a big future,” he said.

“Any 2-year-old that can win at Randwick has a future, there may have only been six in it but they are very competitive races.”

War Eternal was bred by Cambridge Stud and offered through our draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale where he was signed for at NZ$160,000 by Baker and Clarke Bloodstock.

He is a son of the Fastnet Rock mare Aleria, who was purchased on Cambridge Stud’s behalf by agent John Foote for $200,000 at the Inglis Sydney Easter Yearling Sale. She placed three times from a handful of starts and this is her first foal.

“She’s a very good-looking mare and she foaled to Almanzor last year, she’s a really nice filly. She is in foal to Reliable Man who we have got shares in,” Chief Executive Henry Plumptre said.

Aleria, who will be served by resident sire Embellish this year, is a daughter of the dual Listed winner Impressive Eagle and she is a half-sister to the G1 Queensland Derby winner Eagle Way and to the Listed Proud Miss S. winner Assertive Eagle.

Another half-sister Soaressa also won an edition of the Proud Miss and she is the dam of the dual Group 3 winner Thermal Current while this season’s G3 Black Opal S. winner Kalashnikov is another family member.
