The dependable Playoffs drew further attention to his Karaka-bound half-brother when he produced a tidy performance to score over 2000 metres at Caulfield.
A son of Tavistock who has now won on five occasions, he is out of Lazaan and we will offer her U S Navy Flag colt as Lot 373 during the Book 1 session of New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale in March.
Lazaan has left three winners, including the black-type performer Divine Power, and is a daughter of Zabeel and the three-time Group 1 winner Lashed.
Playoffs was purchased for $230,000 out of our Karaka draft in 2018 by agent Dean Hawthorne and raced for trainer Ciaron Maher and David Eustace in the colours of prominent owner Jonathan Munz.
The five-year-old raced three back on the fence at Caulfield before rider Matthew Cartwright angled off the rail before the turn and came with a well-timed finish to claim top honours.
“He’s a typical New Zealand-bred and he’s really furnished since his last preparation,” Maher said. He’ll keep ticking through the grades and is a progressive horse.
“It was a terrific ride and he was patient and waited to get out and got the bob in – it was beautiful.”
