17 Dec 2022What a grand result at Te Rapa when our gallant three-year-old Polygon produced such a determined performance to earn top honours in the G3 Eulogy Stakes.
We bred and race the daughter of Highly Recommended, who successfully stepped up to a mile for the first time off the back of a sound run for fifth in the G3 Bonecrusher Stakes over 1400 metres.
Congratulations to our trainer Lance Noble, who has done a fine job with the filly, and to rider Warren Kennedy who didn’t miss a beat.
“We were pleased with the way she had come on since finishing fifth in the Bonecrusher and we did want to try her over a little more ground,” Noble said.
“She had a good barrier and Warren made good use of it, while I also think the blinkers on for the first time really helped her concentrate.
“Her form has been very solid and it is great to see her take another step up.”
Polygon settled close to the pace off the fence and was perfectly presented to challenge 200 metres from home and stayed on strongly to win by 1.3l.
The Eulogy was transferred to Te Rapa after racing at Awapuni was abandoned last Saturday and that played presented an ideal opportunity for Polygon, who was originally being aimed at the G2 Eight Carat Classic at Pukekohe on Boxing Day.
“We hadn’t really thought too much about this race as we were thinking of tackling the Eight Carat Classic with her,” Noble said.
“When they transferred the race to Te Rapa we decided to take a serious look as we thought the field looked within her scope and there was no Legarto there, as there is likely to be in the Eight Carat.”
Polygon will be a valuable addition in time to our broodmare band as she is a daughter of the Encosta De Lago mare Polyantha.
She was a capable performer and was successful on five occasions up to 2100 metres and is a half-sister to the G2 Moonee Valley Oaks winner Pure Harmony.
We sold Polyantha’s filly by U S Navy Flag filly to Proven Thoroughbreds and Pride Racing at Karaka earlier this year for $90,000 and the dam produced a daughter of Hello Youmzain this season before visiting Sword Of State.
