Queensland Derby Bid Receives Another Tick4 May 2019

The 2019 Queensland Derby bid of Tavistock 3YO The Golden Hind received another tick on Sunday when the talented 3YO demolished his rivals to the tune of 9.75 lengths over a mile at the Sunshine Coast.

The Golden Hind had shown a taste of things to come at the same track the start before when breaking maiden ranks, despite doing a few things wrong in the 1400m assignment.

“He’s had a tendency to overdo things when ridden off the speed, but he was as happy as a pig in shit being out in front yesterday,” said Proven Thoroughbreds’ Jamie Walter.

“From here we will either take him to the Rough Habit Saturday or wait for Wednesday week and he can return to the Sunshine Coast before potentially heading to the Grand Prix. The latter is probably the more tempting option, but there is no guarantee that his prizemoney will be enough to get him into the Grand Prix field.”

Trained by Stephen O’Dea, The Golden Hind has now won two of seven career starts for his connections Redbank North Pty Ltd, Proven Thoroughbreds, Four Legged Lottery No2, N White, A Smith, R & Mrs J Martin, R Harridge, A & Ms E McMaster, M Gray-Spencer, C Maclure, A Whitehouse, P Newsom, A Wales, N Davidson, F & Mrs C Cook, B McAra & S Greenaway,

Proven Thoroughbreds’ Jamie Walter purchased The Golden Hind as a yearling from Cambridge Stud’s 2017 NZB Premier draft for $180,000.

Bred by Sir Patrick and Justine Lady Hogan, he is out of the Encosta de Lago mare Spring Venture.

Spring Venture is currently in foal to Almanzor.
