Red Ruler Second In AJC Derby

The three-year-old son of Viking Ruler, Red Ruler, has run an excellent second in the Group 1 A$1.8 million AJC Derby (2400m) run at Royal Randwick in Sydney on Saturday.

Unsuited by the wet track Red Ruler was very brave in defeating all but fellow Kiwi three-year-old Nom Du Jeu.

Red Ruler fought on doggedly for second and was making good ground on the winner in the closing stages although a firm track would have boosted his chances.

It caps a big season for Red Ruler who also won the Group 2 Lexus Championship Stakes at Ellerslie this year.
