Roaring Lion picked up two awards at the coveted Cartier Awards in London last night, including 2018 Horse of The Year.
Roaring Lion’s sensational year, in which he won four Group 1s, was recognised on Tuesday night when he was given two prizes at the Cartier Awards at the Dorchester Hotel: Cartier Three-year-old Colt and Horse of The Year.
It was the fourth time in five years that Roaring Lion’s trainer John Gosden had trained the horse of the year in European Flat racing's end-of-season awards, following Kingman (2014), Golden Horn (2015) and Enable (2017).
Sheikh Fahad – who has described Roaring Lion as “the horse of a lifetime” – received the award from Cartier’s Laurent Feniou, alongside Tweenhills’ David Redvers and Hannah Wall.
David said: “It’s been the season we all dream of having with the most amazing equine athlete, the best trainer and the best jockey [Oisin Murphy]. It worked out incredibly well.
“We hoped and dreamed that we’d have the Horse of The Year and we’ve got him. Enable, Stradivarius etc put up great challenges but thank God, Roaring Lion ended up being the most successful racehorse of the year."
It was another golden night for Gosden as he also won with Enable (Older Horse), Stradivarius (Stayer) and Too Darn Hot (Two-year-old Colt). It says an awful lot for the strength in depth at Clarehaven that Cracksman – winner of three Group 1s himself this season – missed out.
Roaring Lion is due to arrive at Tweenhills this week and we cannot wait to welcome him.
