Almanzor was at the double in Europe overnight with a pair of well-related juvenile colts opening their winning accounts in England.

Castle Way had finished runner-up in his Newmarket debut last month and the Charlie Appleby-trained youngster comfortably went one better over 1600 metres at Haydock in the hands of William Buick in the Godolphin colours.

“He did it really nicely and has progressed well since his first start at Newmarket,” Buick said.

“I don’t know what the plans are for him are going forward, but he’s a lovely, big horse and there’s plenty of improvement in him.

“He’s a horse going the right way and he will be even better next season, he’s well above average, for sure.”

He is a half-brother to the multiple Group 1 winner Palace Pier and was purchased for 425,000gns as a yearling at Tattersalls.

Another set of famous silks was to the fore at Salisbury where Circle Of Fire triumphed at his second start for the Queen.

The two-year-old is prepared by Sir Michael Stoute and had placed at his first appearance at Leicester in early August before claiming top honours overnight with Ryan Moore the successful rider.

Circle Of Fire holds a nomination for the Epsom Derby and is a half-brother to the G3 Golden Gate San Francisco Mile Stakes winner Evening Sun with their dam the Galileo mare Fiery Sunset.
