Runaway win for Snapper4 Feb 2021

Flemington trainer Mike Moroney was pleasantly surprised with the runaway win from Snapper (NZ) (Power) at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Moroney was a little concerned Snapper might need the run but the son of Power turned it into a procession after crossing from the outside to lead and then burn his rivals off in the home straight to win the 3YO Maiden over by 3-1/4 lengths eased down.

“I thought he was impressive doing what he did,” Moroney said.

“I was concerned about the outside barrier and him possibly needing the run but the way he won tonight gives us something to look forward to.

“He was able to cross and then he relaxed for Mark Zahra which was good to see and he never looked like being beaten.

“He had Group form in New Zealand behind Need I Say More so it’s good to see him get off the mark like this and her certainly looks to have a bright future.”

Snapper cost $60,000 as a yearling from the Cambridge Stud draft at the NZB Premier sale at Karaka when purchased by Paul Moroney and has now earned connections in excess of $40,000 and with the distinct promise of more to come.

A half-brother to Snapper by Almanzor out of the stakes performed One Cool Cat mare Onlyarose was sold for $300,000 to the bid of Graeme Rogerson at the recent New Zealand Bloodstock Book 1 Yearling Sale at Karaka. - NZ Racing Desk
