Second Australian Group Winner for Tavistock

29 May 2015

Werther (Tavistock ex Bagalollies, by Zabeel) firmed considerably in the market for next Saturday's Queensland Derby-Gr.1 with a dashing win over the older horses in today's Group Two Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) at Doomben.

He becomes the second Australian Group Winner for his young gun sire Tavistock (Montjeu), with Volkstok'n'barrell having won the Rosehill Guineas-Gr.1 during the Sydney Autumn Carnival.

Werther is raced by his breeders from the stable of Andrew Campbell.  He won the Valachi Downs Championship Stakes-Gr.2 (2100m) at Ellerslie during the middle of April before heading to Adelaide where he finished second in the South Australian Derby-Gr.1 (2500m) behind Delicacy.

The 2015 book for Tavistock has been closed for some time with Cambridge Stud being overwhelmed with applications for his services.

Tavistock is New Zealand's Leading Second Season Sire and has sired 9 Stakes Performers from his first crop to date.
