Silky performance opens winning account9 Feb 2022

Savasilk has been building toward a breakthrough victory for a while and her day duly arrived in style at Ruakaka.

Our well-bred daughter of Savabeel had put the writing on the wall most recently when runner-up at Matamata and she had no trouble going one better over 1400 metres in the New Zealand Bloodstock Pearl Insurance Race.

The Jamie Richards-trained filly was caught three wide early before settling on the leader’s quarters and, after taking control 300 metres from home, stayed on strongly for a comfortable victory under Opie Bosson.

Savasilk, who holds a nomination for the G1 Levin Classic, was purchased at Karaka on our behalf by Te Akau’s David Ellis for $360,000. The daughter of former leading juvenile Silk Pins was a member of our 2020 yearling draft where we offered her on behalf of breeder Max Whitby.

Silk Pins was a winner and placed in the Karaka Million, G1 Diamond Stakes, G2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes and Listed Murdoch Newell Stakes.

Savasilk’s pedigree also features the G2 Moonee Valley Fillies’ Classic winner Gypsy Diamond and the G3 Maribyrnong Plate winner Finance Tycoon.

We will offer a brother to Savasilk as lot 580 at this year's edition of the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale.
