Snitzel mare strikes again

Versilia showed the benefit of a good break with a sterling first-up performance at Geelong to win with authority.

Our daughter of Snitzel hadn’t raced since April, but trainer Danny O’Brien produced her in prime order following two smart jump-outs and she posted the third win of her eight-start career.

Versilia cleared the gates quickly to cross the field from the outside gate and sit in second spot to the turn. She ambled to the front halfway down the straight under rider Damian Lane before cruising clear to score by 2.25l.

“Everything worked out well and she travelled and she was just far too good,” Lane said. “Hopefully, she will continue on her winning way now.”

We bought Versilia out of Amarina Farm’s draft at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for A$350,000.

She is out of the three-time winner Belle De Coeur, a Show A Heart mare who was also placed at Group 2 and 3 level. She is from the family of the Karaka Million winner Fort Lincoln and the G2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes winner Flying Babe.
