It was encouraging to hear the stable’s pre-race confidence about Windspeed’s chances at Te Rapa and our home-bred and sold daughter of the late Tavistock duly delivered on the final day of the season.

Trainer Stephen Marsh was overseas and his foreman Rhys Mildon tipped her as the best of their trio of runners in the three-year-old event over 1400 metres.

“We were very happy with her, she’s got a lot of confidence and you can’t beat winning form,” he said.

Windspeed, who had been successful on the track in her previous outing, was away quickly to make the running in the hands of champion jockey Michael McNab.

They angled toward the middle of the track at the top of the straight and the filly held a strong gallop to score for the third time from eight appearances.

“I thought she could go on with it. She was a course winner which was a big plus,” McNab said.

Windspeed was purchased by Marsh from our 2020 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale draft for $25,000.
She is a daughter of the unraced Zabeel mare Tuesday’s Child, who boasts a rich pedigree which features the multiple Group 1 winner and champion sire Redoute’s Choice.
