Our Modena hinted at a bright staying future with an upset victory at Avondale in the colours of part-owner Tony Rider.

The Tavistock mare was making her third start and showed her appreciation of the step up to a mile.

Trained by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, the lightly-tried mare temporarily looked under pressure but kicked in the last 100 metres and was in control at the line.

Our Modena was bred by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan and was sold by Cambridge Stud at Karaka in 2018 for $420,000 to Bruce Perry Bloodstock.

Her dam Zenella is by Zabeel and she was a two-time winner and runner-up in the G1 Queensland Oaks.

She is a sister to the G3 Premier’s Cup winner Zephyron and half-sister to the G2 Blazer Stakes winner Forever loved.

They all represent another branch of the hugely-successful Eight Carat family.

Cambridge Stud sold a half-sister by Iffraaj to Our Modena, named Miss Ella, for $240,000 at Karaka earlier this year.
