Strong Draft For Sydney Easter Sales

Cambridge Stud’s flagship stallions, Zabeel and Stravinsky, spearhead the 15-strong draft of Sir Patrick Hogan’s internationally famous operation for next month’s Sydney Easter Yearling Sales.


These two proven stallions were very dominant at the New Zealand yearling sales series at Karaka in January.


Stravinsky was the leading sire at Karaka (by aggregate) with 37 lots sold for an aggregate of $6,762,500 and an average of $182,770.


Right behind him was fellow Cambridge Stud sire Zabeel with 22 yearlings sold for an aggregate of NZ$6,587,000 at an average of NZ$299,318 making him the leading New Zealand-based sire by average at the sale.


Stravinsky has seven representatives in Sydney for the April 10, 11 and 12 sale. These are:

Lot 137 colt ex Dane Dancer:From winning Danehill mare who is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to champion sire Redoute’s Choice. Same family as Group 1 winners Hurricane Sky, Umatilla and Platinum Scissors.


Lot 150 colt ex Diamond Cashel: Dam won Group 3 Manawatu Racing Club Eulogy Stakes and was Group 2 placed. A sister to stakes-winning Royal Asscher who won the Listed VRC Jayco Sprint at Flemington. Family of Diamond Shower and Diamond Dane.


Lot 192 filly ex Fire Lass: From unraced Woodman mare who is a half-sister to Group 1 Queensland Derby winner Camarena. This is the highly successful family of Canny Lass and Canny Lad.


Lot 321 colt ex Marlo Waters: Dam is half-sister to Group 3 winner Way West. This colt is the half-brother to Listed Melbourne winner Jumlah.


Lot 337 filly ex Miss Power Bird: From stakes-winning dam who is a half-sister to Hong Kong’s dual Group 1 winner Lucky Owners. Closely related to world champion stayer and Caulfield-Melbourne Cups winner Might And Power.


Lot 338 colt ex Miss Priority: This exceptional colt is a half-brother to dual group 1 winner Lucky Owners, winner of the Hong Kong Mile and Hong Kong Derby and also Listed winner Miss Power Bird. Closely related to Australian Horse Of The Year and world champion stayer Might And Power.


Lot 555 filly ex Tricia Ann: Dam was Group 2 placed and has already left the Queensland Group 2 winner La Sizeranne and stakes placed Napa Sky. From an outstanding family which includes the likes of Grosvenor and National Gallery.

Lot 1 colt ex Warning Express: First cab off the rank at this year’s sale and sure to be worth an early look. From two-time winning Warning mare. A strong European family


Lot 22 colt ex About Town: From a Danehill mare who is a three-quarter sister in blood to successful sire Flying Spur. Same family as Flying Spur. He is an upstanding type with good range.


Lot 209 filly ex Give It A Whirl: Dam is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Able Attempt who was a successful stakes performer in New Zealand and Hong Kong. Dam has already left four individual winners.


Lot 274 colt ex La Quinta Gold: From young winning Encosta de Lago mare who is a sister to Group 3 winner Gold Lottey. This is the same family as champion stayer Makybe Diva.


Lot 403 colt ex Power And Grace: Dam is a half-sister to Hong Kong champion Lucky Owners and stakes winning Miss Power Bird. Family of Caulfield/Melbourne Cups winner Might And Power. A yearling who oozes class.


Other Cambridge Stud yearlings in the Sydney-bound draft are a More Than Ready x Gorgeous Guru filly, Encosta de Lago x Howkudai filly and Elusive Quality x Zamsong colt.


Sir Patrick Hogan declared the Cambridge Stud draft for this year’s Sydney Easter Yearling sales as strong as any line-up of yearlings he has ever taken to Australia.


“We have a draft of 15 yearlings for the Sydney Easter Sales this year and they are a very correct group of individuals with the right pedigrees to attract the buyers,” he says.
