The Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan bred Tavion Prince broke through for a first metropolitan win at Rosehill this weekend.

A graduate of the 2017 Cambridge Stud yearling draft at Karaka, Tavion Prince was purchased by Yulong Thoroughbreds for $425,000. Originally campaigned as Yulong Tavion, the son of Tavistock won two races in Victoria for Yulong before a subsequent sale earlier this year saw him transfer to the stable of Craig Martin in New South Wales.

Tavion Prince had been placed in two prior starts for Martin before a trip to the city saw him earn a hard fought victory in the TAB Highway Handicap. Settled outside the leader by jockey Rachel King, the five-year-old found himself in front at the 400 metre mark and battled tenaciously to claim a nose margin at the line.
