Superstock struck early in his career when the three-year-old successfully returned to action at Kilmore.

Bred and sold by the farm, the son of Tavistock was making his third appearance and had been gelded and spelled after finishing fourth at Werribee before Christmas.

“This horse was a bit of a nightmare as a colt, but he had showed a lot of ability last preparation,” said Levi Kavanagh, who trains with his father Mark.

Superstock was forward to resume over 1450 metres and was quickly into stride to make the running.

He dashed clear 250 metres off the post and had enough in reserve for rider Joe Bowditch to own a half-neck winning margin at the finish.

“He’s going to improve a lot off that and he’ll be better over a trip, we’re really happy with him,” Kavanagh said.

Superstock was offered on our behalf by Maluka Thoroughbreds at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale where he was knocked down to Kavanagh Racing for A$90,000.

He is the first foal of the Savabeel mare Sistabeel, who won on four occasions, with the South African stakes winners Dance To The Stars and Follow The Stars featuring in her pedigree.

Sistabeel produced a colt by Brutal in 2022 and is now in foal to Hello Youmzain.
