A rich pedigree was to the fore at Te Rapa this afternoon when Sweet Anna broke her maiden at just her second appearance.

The Tavistock three-year-old ran fifth on debut at Taupo last month and showed sharp improvement to win over 1400 metres.

The filly is trained by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman and produced an irresistible finish under Matthew Cameron.

Sweet Anna, who was part of Cambridge Stud’s draft at Karaka in 2019, is a sister to the Gr.1 Australian Derby winner Tavago and is raced by her co-breeders Sir Patrick and Justine, Lady Hogan.

Sweet Anna and Tavago are out of Sara Ann, an unraced daughter of Stravinsky and a sister to the G2 Tatt’s Winter Stakes winner La Sizeranne. La Sizeranne was also a multiple Group 1 placegetter and the dam of stakes winner Za Moulin Rouge.
