Elliptical will head to his winter quarters off the back of a stylish debut victory over 1400 metres on the Lakeside course at Sandown.

A quality son of Dundeel, the two-year-old is trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman and we are delighted to be part of the ownership group that races the promising youngster.

“It’s not easy to win first-up over 1400 metres and he’s a horse that we’ll put away now for the spring and the better races,” Sam Freedman said.

“It’s a great result for Brendan and Jo Lindsay, Henry Plumptre and Suman Hedge and the rest of his owners.”

Elliptical was a A$380,000 purchase at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale with Freedman Racing, Suman Hedge Bloodstock and Blue Sky Bloodstock co-signing the ticket.

He is a son of the winning Testa Rossa mare Marquise Da Rossa, who is from the family of the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes winner and successful sire Marauding.

Elliptical raced in second spot to the turn before jockey Mark Zahra urged him to the front 200 metres from home and the juvenile stayed on strongly to win by three-quarters of a length.

“It was a perfect ride and Mark said he had a plan to get outside the leader and he travelled really strongly,” Freedman said.

“He gives us the impression he will get up to a mile. We’ve got a good opinion of him and he needs the blinkers on just at the moment to keep his mind on the job.”
