Emerging middle-distance performer Trav promises to be a force to be reckoned with in future feature handicaps.

The improving four-year-old continued the hot run of form of our shuttle stallion Almanzor when he outstayed his Rating 75 rivals in testing heavy conditions over 2040 metres at Wanganui.

He was a close course and distance second at his previous appearance and went one better in determined fashion for the fifth win of his career for trainer, co-breeder and part-owner Raymond Connors.

“It was a really nice win, I was a bit worried about the track as he seems to like better footing,” he said.

“I’ll give him a spell now and look forward to next season.”

Trav settled in behind the pace on fence and, as the field fanned out at the top of the straight, he came through closest to the rail to take control.

Despite loosing his whip on the turn, rider Madan Singh was able to get the best out of Trav to triumph in a driving finish.

He is out of the Savabeel mare Royal Sav and a family that Connors has previously enjoyed outstanding success.

It features his G2 Wellington Cup and two-time G3 New Zealand Cup winner Blood Brotha and the G3 Manawatu Classic winner and G1 New Zealand Derby placegetter King Johny.
