Sudbina completed a winning double at Taupo for Almanzor when she produced a determined display to break her maiden.
The Roger James and Robert Wellwood-trained daughter of our shuttle stallion was a form runner following a runner-up finish at Matamata when resuming from a five month break at her previous appearance.
Her successful Taupo effort over 1300 metres came after Almanzor’s son Geriatrix had also posted an impressive winning display.
Sudbina broke quickly from the barrier to sit in second spot to the turn and she finished resolutely over the closing stages to open her account over 1300 metres.
“She was very good at her last start and we expected improvement,” Wellwood said.
“We had been very happy with her and she’s a nice filly going forward.”
A half-sister to the former New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year and multiple Group winner Fix, Sudbina is out of the Danehill mare Destined and is raced by her breeders Frantic Bloodstock and Haunui Bloodstock.
Destined is a half-sister to the triple Group 1 winner Foreteller and her Almanzor filly was sold at this year’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale through the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft to Yu Long Investments for A$340,000.
