Tavistock’s son Outovstock has been a work in progress for Chad Ormsby and a gear change at Pukekohe proved a masterstroke.

The three-year-old had finished fourth in his previous two outings and the removal of blinkers and addition of side winkers saw our homebred open his winning account over 1600 metres.

Outovstock broke well from the outside gate and rider Opie Bosson’s skills were again to the fore when, after 400 metres, he had the gelding tucked away midfield on the fence.

He picked up ground nearing the home bend and lengthened stride strongly one off the rail to defeat fellow farm graduate Investigate.

We sold Outovstock to Ormsby under his Riverrock Farm banner at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $50,000 and the Cambridge-based horseman now races him with partners after he failed to meet his Ready to Run Sale reserve.

Outovstock is the first foal of the Fastnet Rock mare Orphea, who was twice successful and a sister to the G1 Australian Guineas winner Rock Classic.

Orphea’s Too Darn Hot colt was sold at Karaka in 2023 to Ciaron Maher for $130,000, her daughter of Deep Field was bought at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale by Capri Racing & Syndication for A$100,000 and she had a Savabeel colt last season.
