Well-related Tavistock colt Jaffastock made a sterling start to his career at Ballarat this afternoon.
The three-year-old opened with a debut victory over 1400 metres for trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young.
Jaffastock was a high-priced yearling at Karaka and an early return was delivered for his owners which include breeder John Anderson.
“It was a good, solid win, we were just a bit worried he might lack a bit of ring craft, but he was very professional,” Busutin said.
“We’ve taken a bit of time with him and he’s gone shin sore a couple of times.
“We’ll try and find a progressive race for him during the spring and see where we end up, but he might be a nice horse for the autumn.”
Busuttin paid $230,000 at Karaka to secure Jaffastock, a three-quarter brother to the champion Hong Kong Kong galloper Werther.
He is also a three-quarter brother to the G3 New Zealand Cup winner Gobstopper and the Group 1 performer Milseain.
