A pair of three-year-old fillies provided Tavistock with a double at Geelong on Friday afternoon.

The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained Desert Realm (NZ) (Tavistock) broke maiden ranks in impressive fashion at Geelong on Friday, landing a maiden over 1540m in the hands of Craig Newitt.

The Greenwich Stud-bred filly was a $25,000 yearling purchase at Karaka from the draft of Brighthill Farm and had one trial for Cambridge trainer Mark Brooks before relocating across the Tasman.

“I don’t know what the horses were like behind her but she did it with plenty of authority,” Busuttin said. “I am sure she has got more wins in her and hopefully she will go on with it.”

Later on the card the Peter Stokes-trained Tumanako added a second win to her record with a hard fought win over 1755m.

Sporting the colours of syndicator Wylie Dalziel, Tumanako was purchased for $80,000 by Dalziel and Peter Moody at the 2018 Karaka Book 1 yearling sale from the draft of Carlaw Park.
