Tavistock 3YO gelding Foreign Territory announced himself as ‘one to watch’ with a smart 3 length win over 1400m at Kensington today for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

Foreign Territory was initially offered for sale at the 2016 NZB Select Sale, selling on this occasion to NZB as agent from the draft of Bradbury Park for $50,000.

He returned to the Karaka auditorium through the draft of Diamond Lodge for the 2016 Ready To Run Sale, successfully purchased on this occasion by Scott Darby of Darby Racing for $65,000.

“He showed a bit of dash in his breeze up,” recalled Darby.

Today’s maiden win came at Foreign Territory’s second start, much to the delight of  owners Mr M D Holland, Mr W Bow, Mr J M Coats, Mr G L Collis, Mr G R Doolan, Mr J A Forrest, Mr T N Grant, Mr G A Head, Mr J A Head, Mr M V Head, Mr S Litson, Mr R J Miller, Mr D Mulcahy, Mrs K M Paragreen, Mr N R Parker, Mr P R Rechter, Mr S Sawan, Mr G L Wilson and Mr M F Troughton.

“Funnily enough though, 8 weeks ago we were struggling with him, but he has just kept getting better and better. It’s quite unbelievable what he’s now doing,” commented Darby.

“I think when he gets out to a mile, or even 2000m, this will really open up some doors for him.”

Bred by Phillip and Kim Crawford, Foreign Territory is out of the winning Pins mare Pinzee. To date, there have been three named foals bred on this Tavistock/Pins cross and they have all been winners.
