Tavistock juggernaut rolls on

3 Nov 2014

The remarkable spring form being shown by the first-crop Tavistock three-year-olds continued today when Tavy took out a strong Maiden event at Ellerslie.

Prepared by Roger James at Cambridge, Tavy (Tavistock ex The Cat's Whiskers, by Tale of the Cat) had looked unlucky when being beaten on debut at Taupo a month ago.

It was an appropriate win with Tavy having been bred by Bloomsbury Stud and one of the co-owners being Henrietta, the Dowager Duchess of Bedford.  Bloomsbury Stud bred Tavistock; he went on to become a dual Group One winner on the racetrack before being purchased for stud duties to stand at Cambridge Stud.  The young stallion has a full book and is clearly in front on the Second Season Sires Premiership.

Third in the same event at Ellerslie was another first-crop Tavistock in Midnitemagicman (ex Keep Alight, by Keeper) who came from near last on the turn and flashed home for his placing.

For the record, Tavistock had another placegetter today with Abbey Road (ex Douzaine, by Minardi) running third on debut at Otaki.
