Progressive Tavistock mare Le Gai Soleil opened her autumn preparation in perfect style at Warwick Farm this afternoon.

The four-year-old showed she was in for another rewarding campaign with a dominant performance to score over 1400 metres.

Le Gai Soleil was bred by the Bax family and they wisely retained ownership in the five-time winner.

“She’s been a really good edition to the stable. She’s got a great record and is a lovely mare to train,” John O’Shea said.

“She will come on from that run, she’s almost 20kg heavier this preparation.

“She is effective on rain-affected tracks so she’s in for a good time of it.”

Le Gai Soleil settled toward the back of the field before picking up ground 700 metres from home and finishing stylishly.

“She’s furnished both physically and mentally and is just a beautiful mare and she’s only going to get better,” rider James McDonald said.

“She didn’t show that much toe early before she grabbed the bit and away she went.”

Out of the Danzero mare Night Danza, Le Gail Soleil is a half-sister to the two-time Group 1 winner Danzdanzdance.
