Tavistock's two new Group Performers

3 Jan 2016

New Year's Day racing at Ellerslie saw Tavistock chalk up a new Group Two winner and a new Stakes Performer.

Hasselhoof (first crop ex Alpine, by Zabeel) was sublime in taking out the Group Two Rich Hill Mile.  Matt Cameron had him stalking the leaders before pushing the go button at the top of the straight.  The four-year-old soon took control and at no stage looked like being run down, winning by nearly two-and-a-half lengths and stopping the clock at 1.36.77, an excellent effort considering it was a Slow7 track.

It was his sixth-straight win.

Downton Abbey (second crop ex Lady in Waiting, by Van Nistelrooy) confirmed her earlier promise with a second placing in the Mongolian Khan Royal Stakes-Gr.2 (2000m) for three-year-old fillies.

The Roger James-trained filly became Tavistock's 13th individual Stakes Performer; here is an overview...
