Volkstok'n'barrell has been installed a $2.50 fixed odds favourite for the New Zealand Derby following his devistating victory in tonight's $100,000 Karaka 3YO Mile at Ellerslie.

Rider Matt Cameron didn't have to knock the favourite around to win tonight; Volkstok'n'barrell always looked in command despite a brief challenge from Rockfast turning in.

Co-trainer Donna Logan said post-race that the horse will step out next in the $100,000 Avondale Guineas-Gr.2 (2100m), 14 February which will serve as his final lead-up to the $750,000 TV3 New Zealand Derby-Gr.1 (2400m) back at Ellerslie two weeks later.

Tavistock is clearly New Zealand's Leading Second Season Sire and demand for his yearlings on offer at Karaka during the coming week is sure to be intense.

Volkstok'n'barrell (ex Volkster, by Volksraad) was a $50,000 2013 Karaka Select Sale purchase by Donna Logan and came from the consignment of Seaton Park.
