Tavistock yearlings in demand in Melbourne

Tavistock's progeny were in keen demand at the opening session of the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sales.

Hard on the back of Tavistock gelding Werther's Hong Kong Cup win at Sha Tin for trainer John Moore, the Cambridge Stud stallion was again the subject of much attention at the yearling sale.

Moore's bloodstock agent son George went to $A240,000 for a colt out of Thorn Park mare Once More, whose dam is a sister to champion filly Snap.

Queensland bloodstock agent John Foote and Victorian trainer Darren Weir jointly signed for the Tavistock colt out of Zabeel mare Zadancer, closely related to Gr.1 Stradbroke Handicap winner Linton and Gr.2 Rubiton Stakes winner Heatherley.

Bred by long-time Cambridge Stud client Gene Tsoi, the colt was bred on the same Tavistock-Zabeel cross as Werther and dual Group One winner Tarzino.

Cambridge Stud boss Sir Patrick Hogan was chuffed for those breeders who had profited from sending their mares to Tavistock at a time when his service fee was $7000 plus GST.

"He commanded a service of $65,000 plus GST this season so those breeders who supported him at the time his current yearling crop was conceived have profited handsomely," Sir Patrick said.

"It's a reflection of how highly Tavistock's stock are regarded in the marketplace and of the job his racehorses are doing on the track.

"It was great to see Werther back to his best in Hong Kong last night. He's undoubtedly one of the best gallopers in the world - and that's what Tavistock is capable of leaving."
