Progressive Tavistock mare Apostrophe emphasised her versatility with a dominant last start win over 1600 metres at Trentham.

The lightly raced five-year-old struck a heavy surface for the first time and coped admirably to clear away in the closing stages in the hands of Craig Zackey.

Apostrophe is compiling a tidy record for trainers Roger James and Robert Wellwood with four wins and four placings from her 12 appearances.

Her latest success may now pave the way for a return to the capital city course for a crack at next month’s G1 Thorndon Mile.

We sold Apostrophe on behalf of Greg Perry, who bred her under his Greenwich Stud banner, at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale to James and Wellwood for $60,000.

She is a daughter of the winning Cape Cross mare Cape South and she is a half-sister to the G2 Moonee Valley Oaks winner Pure Harmony.
