Tavistock’s son too strong

Lightly raced stayer Mr Blackwood proved a class above his rivals for trainer Cindy Alderson over at Sale.

The Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan-bred son of the late Tavistock won for the third time in his 15-start career and the five-year-old gave jockey Daniel Moor a more than comfortable ride over 2200 metres.

They lobbed along in second spot before taking over early in the run home and cruised to the post unchallenged with fellow Cambridge Stud graduate That's Incranibull his nearest pursuer.

“We had it quite soft and with 54kg on his back I knew I could make use of my bloke early,” he said.

“He stays all day and his last run at Sandown (for fifth) was quite good and I probably ride him a bit too cautiously.”

Mr Blackwood was initially purchased from our draft at Karaka for $15,000 by trainer Peter Lock before relocating to Victoria. He is out of the Zabeel mare Zsa Zsa Gabeel and is a brother to the two-time winner and stakes placegetter Saint Eustace.
