Te Rapa Treble For Zabeel

20 Dec 2008

Champion Cambridge Stud sire
Zabeel was represented by three winners at Saturday's Waikato Racing Club meeting at Te Rapa.

Zabeel started off the day on the perfect note with the win by the Roger James and Paul Mirabelli-trained three-year-old Leica Scotch (ex Leica Virgin).

Ridden by Vinny Colgan, Leica Scotch ran out the winner by a long neck and certainly looked a strong staying type.

Leica Scotch appeals as an ideal type to contest the Group 1 Telecom New Zealand Derby at Ellerslie in March over 2400m. Zabeel has already produced the winner of this race on four previous occasions - Zonda, Hades, Royson and St Reims.

The next winner for Zabeel at Te Rapa came when the Stephen McKee-trained four-year-old mare, Haya (ex Tudor Era), justified her favouritism to win the Brian Kneebone 1600.

The Zabeel four-year-old old gelding, Maythehorsebemagic, rounded off the Te Rapa meeting in great fashion by winning the final event, the Dunstan Feeds Championship Qualifier (2100m).

Maythehorsebemagic is out of the former top-class racemare, Arletty.
