Tavistock 3YO The Golden Hind hinted to his Queensland Derby potential with an encouraging maiden win over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

“It was very pleasing. He did a lot wrong but still won,” said Proven Thoroughbreds Jamie Walter.

“He’s a work in progress. He’ll have a few more starts to season him. If he kept stepping up and doing things right in these races, then we’d have to consider the Queensland Derby for him.”

Trained by Stephen O’Dea and raced by Redbank North Pty Ltd, Proven Thoroughbreds, Four Legged Lottery No2, N White, A Smith, R & Mrs J Martin, R Harridge, A & Ms E McMaster, M Gray-Spencer, C Maclure, A Whitehouse, P Newsom, A Wales, N Davidson, F & Mrs C Cook, B McAra & S Greenaway, The Golden Hind will look to add a second career win to his resume Sunday week.

Walter purchased The Golden Hind as a yearling from Cambridge Stud’s 2017 NZB Premier draft for $180,000.

Bred by Sir Patrick and Justine Lady Hogan, he is out of the Encosta de Lago mare Spring Venture.

Spring Venture is currently in foal to Almanzor.
