The Irishman strikes again in HK9 Feb 2023

Tavistock’s talented son The Irishman doubled his Hong Kong tally when he was successful over 1650 metres at Happy Valley.

The Cambridge Stud graduate has now won twice since joining Francis Lui’s stable to go with previous victories in New Zealand and Australia.

The Irishman was initially purchased out of our draft at Karaka for $170,000 by Tony Pike and broke his maiden for the Cambridge trainer and finished runner-up in the Listed Uncle Remus Stakes.

He was then sold to Hong Kong interests, but first won for Randwick trainer Mark Newnham and ran second in the G2 Phar Lap Stakes and G3 Carbine Club Stakes before relocating to Lui’s operation.

The Irishman is a brother to the dual Australian Group 3 winner Gunstock with their dam the Zabeel mare Zeranti and we sold her Belardo colt for $90,000 to Import Racing and trainer Mick Price at the recent New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale.

The unraced Zeranti is from the family of the three-time Group 1 winner Sea Siren, the dual South African Group 2 winner and last season’s G3 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes winner Ruthless Dame.
