Progressive Almanzor four-year-old Adam I Am impressively returned to winning ways at Ellerslie.

The Glenn Old-trained representative added to his burgeoning record when he accounted for his Rating 85 rivals over 1400 metres under jockey Michael McNab.

A previous fourth in the Sir Patrick Hogan Classic after getting his tongue over the bit, Adam I Am now has four wins from his seven starts and is confidently expected to make his future mark at the highest level.

“I worked him during the week and he filled me full of confidence, he’ll make it to Group 1 level for sure,” McNab said.

Adam I Am settled in fourth spot and, under a confident ride, proved superior when asked for a serious effort.
“It’s a bit of relief really, they just jumped out and cantered,” Old said.

“There’s no concrete plans, but I think he will make a really nice 2000 metre horse.”

Purchased by Old out of Kilgravin Lodge’s 2021 New Zealand Bloodstock Book 1 Yearling Sale draft for $100,000, Adam I Am is a son of the Fast ‘N’ Famous mare Our Famous Eve.

She won three races from Old’s stable, including the G2 Japan-New Zealand International Trophy.

Adam I Am’s juvenile brother was a $170,000 Karaka purchase last year for Tony Pike and finished fourth in his pre-Christmas debut before a break.
